Assignment 2 consists of completing the Adventures in Fugawiland simulated dig. Read the text of the simulation workbook, follow the instructions, and work through the exercises. After you have finished the exercises of excavating and analyzing your sites, answer the ten questions asked at the start of the program. You do not have to do all of the exercises in the workbook. However, the information and exercises in the workbook provide information and guidance that can help you turn in a good project. Also, make use of the capabilities in the simulation program for site analysis. This will help you to turn in a superior project. You can print most of what you do in the simulation program and can use those printouts as part of your report/essay to hand in for this Assignment.

Complete and hand in the following for Assignment 2:

1. Prepare a three-paragraph summary (each paragraph should consist of a few sentences) as a report/essay that explains your interpretation of the data you analyzed (see p. 113 of the Fugawiland workbook).

2. Attach three graphs to your report/essay that show the data or the patterns upon which your interpretation is based. Which three graphics is up to you (they could include an isobar map, a scatterplot, or a bar chart or any combination of these), but they must be referenced in your report/essay (for example, "see graph 1" or ". . . as shown in graph 1"). You will lose points on the Assignment if you include graphs that do not show the points you are making in the report/essay.

3. Prepare your final answers to the series of questions you must answer as part of the simulation, and print out your "computer answer sheet" (you can only do this once within the program). Attach this sheet as the third part of your assignment to be handed in.

Assignment 2 is due to be handed in during class on April 19, 2005.

Please ask questions of your Teaching Assistants, Ms. Donna White (email dmwhite@uiuc.edu) and Ms. Susan Alt (email at salt@uiuc.edu), if you are ever uncertain about how to proceed or about what is needed for a successful project.
